This line
Double the braid through the eye. If the eye is small, the loop will not pass and you cannot tie the drop.
Avoid when
Eyes too small for a doubled loop, and a tag trimmed short so you have nothing left for the weight.

Palomar Drop Shot

Step 1
Double 12 to 30 inches of line into a closed loop, depending on how high you want the bait off the bottom.

Step 2
Pass that doubled loop through the hook eye.

Step 3
Tie a loose overhand knot in the doubled line. Leave it open.

Step 4
Pass the hook through the open loop. The tag will stay long for the weight.

Step 5
Wet the knot and cinch the doubled line. Leave the tag long.

Step 6
Pass the tag back through the hook eye from the point side so the hook stands out with the point up. Tie the weight to the end of the tag.
The drawing follows this tying order. Pause, step, or scrub to stay with the words. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.
Common mistakes
- Trimming the tag before the weight is on.
- Crossing the doubled strands so one side takes the whole load.
