Palomar Knot
Schematic, follow the words.
Step 1
Double 6–8 inches of line so you have a closed loop.
Schematic, follow the words.
Step 2
Pass that loop through the hook eye and leave the hook hanging.
Schematic, follow the words.
Step 3
Tie a loose overhand knot with the doubled line. Do not tighten it yet.
Schematic, follow the words.
Step 4
Pass the whole hook through the open loop.
Schematic, follow the words.
Step 5
Wet the line, pull the standing line and the tag together, then trim the tag.
Follow the words, not the drawing. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.
Common mistakes
- Crossing the loop so one strand takes all the load.
- Cinching fluorocarbon while it is dry.
