Two interlocked overhands that pull into a symmetric bend. It does not jam the way a carrick can, so it is a good join for lines you may want to untie.

The drawing follows this tying order. Pause, step, or scrub to stay with the words. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.

  1. Step 1

Tie a loose overhand in the first rope.

  2. Step 2

Tie a loose overhand in the second, the other way.

  3. Step 3

    Link the two loops.

  4. Step 4

    Dress them symmetric.

  5. Step 5

    Pull the standing parts together.

Common mistakes

  • The overhands linked the wrong way, which is then a different and weaker bend.
  • Tightening one side before the other is dressed.
