Water Knot

The drawing follows this tying order. Pause, step, or scrub to stay with the words. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.

  1. Step 1

Tie a loose overhand in the first line.

  2. Step 2

Start the second line through that overhand, following the first line backwards.

  3. Step 3

Follow the overhand until both strands are doubled all the way around.

  4. Step 4

Dress the strands so they lie next to each other.

  5. Step 5

Wet and tighten. Trim both tags.

Common mistakes

  • A surgeon's knot tied by mistake. Both tags go through together in a surgeon's knot. Here one line follows the other.
  • Strands that cross inside the knot.
