This line

Snell the fluoro leader, not the braid. If you must use braid, add turns and keep them on the shank.

Avoid when

Offset worm hooks you will Texas-rig at the eye. This knot is for straight-shank bait hooks and circle hooks.

The drawing follows this tying order. Pause, step, or scrub to stay with the words. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.

  1. Step 1

Pass the tag through the eye and back along the shank.

  2. Step 2

Form the uni loop beside the shank.

  3. Step 3

Wrap 3 turns through that loop, around the shank.

  4. Step 4

Finish 5 turns. The coils travel along the shank.

  5. Step 5

Pull the tag to form the barrel on the shank, then trim.

Common mistakes

  • Wrapping the standing line up above the eye, which is a normal uni, not a snell.
  • A barrel that never gets pulled down onto the shank.
