Use 6–8 turns. Braid is slick and needs more wraps than mono.

Avoid when

Very heavy leader where an Alberto or FG will pass the guides more cleanly.

Uni Knot

    Follow the words, not the drawing. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.

  1. Schematic, follow the words.

    Step 1

    Pass 8 inches of line through the eye and double it back parallel to the standing line.

  2. Schematic, follow the words.

    Step 2

    Make a loop with the tag and wrap the tag through that loop 5 times (8 times on braid).

  3. Schematic, follow the words.

    Step 3

    Hold the wraps so they do not cross.

  4. Schematic, follow the words.

    Step 4

    Wet the knot and pull the tag to snug the wraps.

  5. Schematic, follow the words.

    Step 5

    Slide the knot to the eye and trim the tag.

Common mistakes

  • Overlapping wraps.
  • Stopping before the knot has seated against the eye.
