This line

The braid does the wraps. Leave the first loop open until the return wraps are done.

Avoid when

A leader so short you cannot wrap up and back. For a slim cast through small guides, an FG is the better knot.

The drawing follows this tying order. Pause, step, or scrub to stay with the words. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.

  1. Step 1

Tie a loose overhand in the fluoro and pass the braid through it. Leave the overhand open.

  2. Step 2

Wrap the braid up the fluoro, about six turns, away from the overhand.

  3. Step 3

Wrap the braid back down across the first layer, toward the open overhand.

  4. Step 4

Pass the braid tag through the open overhand.

  5. Step 5

Slide the knot tight against the fluoro stop and trim both tags short.

Common mistakes

  • Closing the mono overhand before the braid wraps are on.
  • Forgetting the return wraps, which leaves a one-way serve.
