Snell Knot

    Follow the words, not the drawing. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.

  1. Schematic, follow the words.

    Step 1

    Pass the tag through the eye toward the hook point, leaving a long tag.

  2. Schematic, follow the words.

    Step 2

    Lay the tag along the shank and hold it.

  3. Schematic, follow the words.

    Step 3

    Wrap the standing line around the shank and the tag 6 to 8 times, working toward the eye.

  4. Schematic, follow the words.

    Step 4

    Pass the standing line back through the eye, from the same side the tag entered.

  5. Schematic, follow the words.

    Step 5

    Wet the wraps and pull until they lock under the eye. Trim the tag.

Common mistakes

  • Wraps that spiral apart.
  • Pulling so hard the line cuts into a thin fluoro leader.
