Sebile Knot

Patrick Sebile's braid-to-leader knot. The braid wraps one leg of a short leader loop, the tag returns through the loop, and the leader is pulled so the coil flips and locks.

This line

Keep every wrap tight. The lock happens when the leader is pulled and the coil turns over.

Avoid when

An Alberto when you want wraps down both legs and back. This knot is a flip lock on one leg. Use an FG when the join must be slimmer.

The drawing follows this tying order. Pause, step, or scrub to stay with the words. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.

  1. Step 1

Form a short open loop in the leader.

  2. Step 2

Pass the braid through the loop and wrap one leg only, about six turns.

  3. Step 3

Bring the braid tag back through the same loop.

  4. Step 4

Pull the leader so the coil flips onto the standing line. The loop is gone.

  5. Step 5

    Trim both tags short.

Common mistakes

  • Pulling the braid tag first, so the wraps never flip.
  • A long messy loop that will not turn over.
