Seaguar Knot

Heads up: we checked this page against published instructions for this knot, and the steps here don't match. We're rewriting them from those sources. Until then, please don't rely on these steps.

The connection often printed for Seaguar fluorocarbon: a surgeon's loop in the fluoro, then a uni of the other line slid tight against that loop. Two knots, butted. Not a double uni and not a Bristol wrap.

This line

If the main line is braid, the uni needs enough turns to grip. Slide it to the loop. Do not leave a gap.

Avoid when

When you already tie an FG cleanly. The Seaguar connection is the easier loop-and-uni, and it is thicker.

The drawing follows this tying order. Pause, step, or scrub to stay with the words. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.

  1. Step 1

Tie a surgeon's loop in the fluoro.

  2. Step 2

Pass the other line through that loop.

  3. Step 3

Tie a uni around both legs of the loop.

  4. Step 4

Slide the uni until it butts the loop knot.

  5. Step 5

    Trim the tags.

Common mistakes

  • A gap between the uni and the loop.
  • Wrapping the loop like a Bristol and calling it this knot.
