Overhand Loop

A quick loop made with one overhand in doubled line. Fine as a temporary heavy-mono loop. A surgeon's loop is stronger for anything you will cast all day.

Overhand Loop

1 / 5Frame 100 / 100

The drawing follows this tying order. Pause, step, or scrub to stay with the words. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.

  1. Step 1

    Double the line.

  2. Step 2

Cross the doubled end into an overhand.

  3. Step 3

Pass the doubled end through that opening once.

  4. Step 4

Dress it. The loop is already the open end.

  5. Step 5

Pull it tight enough to hold and leave the loop open.

Common mistakes

  • Trusting it on braid.
  • Leaving it half-tied so the doubled end can slip back out.

This knot is for hard baits more than a soft-plastic rig.
