A clove hitch if the rope must stay put and not run.

Munter Hitch


Step 1
Clip or pass the rope through the ring.

Step 2
Cross it into the Munter shape.

Step 3
The brake strand comes out beside the load strand.

Step 4
Hold the brake strand to check the load.

Step 5
The cross should stay in the ring.
The drawing follows this tying order. Pause, step, or scrub to stay with the words. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.
Common mistakes
- Both sides of the cross left on the same side, so it will not lock when you hold the brake strand.
- Using it on a hook eye.
