Half Hitch
One half hitch. Fly tyers use it to hold thread. Anglers use it as the lock inside the 100 percent arbor and the riffle hitch. Alone, it is a start, not a finished fishing knot.

Half Hitch

Step 1
Pass the tag over the standing line.

Step 2
Through the loop that cross made.

Step 3
Pull it until it seats.

Step 4
That single turn is the half hitch.

Step 5
Do not leave it as the only knot on a hook.
The drawing follows this tying order. Pause, step, or scrub to stay with the words. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.
Common mistakes
- Calling one half hitch a clinch.
- Leaving it as the only knot on a fish.
