Step 1
Pass the tippet up through the eye.

Step 2
Wrap the tag once around the standing tippet.

Step 3
Pass the tag back down through the eye.

Step 4
Snug the collar against the top of the eye so the fly can kick.

Step 5
Trim the tag close.
The drawing follows this tying order. Pause, step, or scrub to stay with the words. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting the return pass through the eye, which leaves a half hitch that slips.
- A long tag that twists around the hook on the cast.
