A whip so short the loop pulls out on the first snag.

Step 1
Double the fly-line end back into a loop.

Step 2
Lay thread at the throat of that loop.

Step 3
Whip several turns over both legs.

Step 4
Pull the whip tight.

Step 5
The loop remains open for the leader.
The drawing follows this tying order. Pause, step, or scrub to stay with the words. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.
Common mistakes
- No open loop left after the whip.
- Whipping turns that do not cover the point where the line is doubled.
