Flemish Eye
An eye in the end of a rope or a cable made by intertwining the strands back on themselves. Shark and commercial crews use it where a spliced eye is wanted and a bowline would jam.

Flemish Eye

Step 1
Unlay enough rope for the eye.

Step 2
Form the eye.

Step 3
Tuck each strand back along its own lay.

Step 4
Work the tucks until the eye is firm.

Step 5
The eye stays open.
The drawing follows this tying order. Pause, step, or scrub to stay with the words. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.
Common mistakes
- Strands that do not follow their own lay.
- The eye left so small the hardware will not pass.
Used on
This knot is for hard baits more than a soft-plastic rig.
