A uni knot that starts with two passes through the eye. The barrel grips braid and fluoro better than a uni that only passes the eye once.

This line

Use it on braid when a plain uni slips. The second pass is the point.

Avoid when

Eyes that will not take two strands. A Palomar is the better braid knot when the loop will pass the eye.

The drawing follows this tying order. Pause, step, or scrub to stay with the words. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.

  1. Step 1

Pass the tag through the eye.

  2. Step 2

Pass the tag through the eye again.

  3. Step 3

Form the uni loop beside the standing line.

  4. Step 4

Wrap the tag through that loop so the barrel forms around the standing line.

  5. Step 5

Wet it, slide the barrel to the eye, and trim.

Common mistakes

  • Skipping the second pass, which leaves a normal uni.
  • Sliding the barrel before the double strand is snug at the eye.
