A Knot Wars terminal knot. The line passes the eye twice, doubles back, and the tag takes two wraps around both strands before it is cinched.

This line

The double pass gives slick braid two bites at the eye. Keep the two wraps side by side.

Avoid when

When the eye will not take two strands. Use a Palomar if the eye is large enough for a doubled loop, or a uni if it is not.

Eye Crosser Knot

The drawing follows this tying order. Pause, step, or scrub to stay with the words. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.

  1. Step 1

Pass the line through the hook eye.

  2. Step 2

Pass it through the eye a second time so two strands sit in the eye.

  3. Step 3

Double the tag back parallel to the standing line.

  4. Step 4

Wrap the tag twice around both parallel strands.

  5. Step 5

Wet the knot, pull it tight to the eye, and trim the tag.

Common mistakes

  • One pass through the eye, which is not this knot.
  • Crossing the two wraps so they stack and slip.
