Clinch Knot

Step 1
Pass the tag through the hook eye and leave about six inches.

Step 2
Start the wraps. You are working away from the eye, 2 of 5 turns so far.

Step 3
Finish all 5 wraps. Keep them in one layer, not piled on top of each other.

Step 4
Bring the tag through the small loop that sits against the eye.

Step 5
Wet the wraps. Pull the standing line so the coil slides up and seats on the eye.

Step 6
Trim the tag. Leave a short end so the knot cannot unroll.
The drawing follows this tying order. Pause, step, or scrub to stay with the words. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.
Common mistakes
- Adding the big-loop tuck and thinking it is still the plain clinch.
- Too few wraps on light line.
