Avoid when

A first-time knot in a hurry. Seat it at home once so you know which way the tag leaves.

The drawing follows this tying order. Pause, step, or scrub to stay with the words. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.

  1. Step 1

Make a loop in the heavier line and hold the crossover.

  2. Step 2

Wrap down the loop. 5 turns so far.

  3. Step 3

Finish 10 wraps in that direction.

  4. Step 4

Pass the tag back out through the opening it entered.

  5. Step 5

Wet the knot. Pull the standing lines until the loop closes and the wraps seat. Trim both tags.

Common mistakes

  • Wraps that jump off the leader loop.
  • Forgetting the return wraps on an Alberto, which leaves a one-way Albright.
