This line
This plait holds braid better than a short twist. Keep each pick tight.
Avoid when
A two-strand twist you are calling a plait. The third strand has to cross.

Australian Plait

Step 1
Double the line so you have three strands to plait: the two legs and the tag.

Step 2
Plait halfway. Each strand takes a turn in the middle.

Step 3
Finish 8 picks.

Step 4
Lock the end of the plait with a hitch.

Step 5
The doubled loop beyond the plait stays open.
The drawing follows this tying order. Pause, step, or scrub to stay with the words. The standing line runs to the reel. The tag is the short end you trim. Skin-hook means the point lies flat in the plastic, not out where grass can grab it.
Common mistakes
- Picks that spiral instead of crossing over and under.
- No locking hitch, so the plait unravels.
Used on
This knot is for hard baits more than a soft-plastic rig.
